The tranquil island of St. Celine boasts secluded pink-sand beaches and sparkling turquoise waters. Just an hour's ferry ride from Nassau, it's the perfect spot for tourists to 'get away from it all' - to rest, recharge, and de-stress from the harshness of life. In the wake of a personal tragedy, Sarah and her best friend Amy - professors of anthropology at a local college - arrive for a week of sun, margaritas, and maybe a little romance with some of the locals.

But Sarah's obsession with a pair of honeymooners who recently disappeared from this paradise, leads to the discovery of a bizarre video posted online by the couple just hours before they vanished - images of a purported voudou zombie ritual from somewhere on the island.

As Sarah and Amy attempt to verify the authenticity of the video and perhaps learn the fate of who made it, they uncover St. Celine's tragic and horrifying past - and the myriad secrets the island's inhabitants will protect at all costs.

This book is definitely A! material - I really enjoyed reading it, and would certainly be interested in reading more from Will Overby in the future. The story was fast-paced and thrilling; although perhaps slightly more rushed than I was expecting - at least towards the end. Actually, Mareena told me that what first drew her eye to this book was the cover, and then the subtitle. She didn't even need to read the entire synopsis; before she thought she'd download it for me.

The book was not bad. Worth the read. Not thrilled with the ending. Or maybe it's just the next beginning. We shall see.
Pretty good story. Just the right amount of mystery, romance and horror to make it good. The ending could have been a little less predictable, but overall I was very satisfied with my purchase.
Overall I thought the book was good. I read it in a matter of days (I mainly read at night). There were a couple of things in the book that I was not sure why he wrote them. But other than that it was good.
It was a fast read and a little predictable but very entertaining. Tropical island, voodoo, and a love story. What's not to like?
The writing is decent enough and while the story is coherent for the most part, plot holes abound and there are some interesting moments that could have led the story in a more unique direction than what is fairly predictable.

Update I wanted to elaborate on the quick comments I hastily made after finishing the book on my tablet. The book is not bad by any stretch of the word. At the same time I would not say it is good either. To me, it comes across as another run-of-the-mill "horror" story that attempts to build up a big mystery and intense final act but instead becomes fairly predicable and formulaic by the end. Without wishing to spoil anything, I also found many of the decisions and actions by the three main characters to be very inconsistent and by the end, I was baffled by their actions. Add to this several plot points that seem to be tied to the main storyline but which are ultimately underdeveloped or forgotten outright.

It all adds up to a book that read more like a draft version than a final product and I am glad I only picked it up when it was free.
Sarah is seeing things since the car accident that took the man she loves. Abby wants to help her heal. A nice vacation should work. Right beware of what happens in the islands. You never know what the practices are going to do to you.
The Island by Will Overby is a spine tingling tale about two college teachers, Sarah and Amy, that head off to an island near the Bahamas for some rest and relaxation. They stumble into more than they bargained for, however, as the island has some secrets of its own. A great read, total page turner. I highly recommend this novel, unless you yourself are about to head off on a trip to an island. It might change your mind.
